Rep. Dennis Kucinch of Ohio was asked this during a debate of the Democratic candidates for president tonight: Has he ever seen a UFO?
"The godmother of your daughter, Shirley MacLaine, writes in her new book that you've sighted a UFO over her home in Washington state,'' the questioner asked, "that you found the encounter extremely moving, that it was a triangular craft silent and hovering, that you felt a connection to your heart and heard direction in your mind.
"Now,'' Kucininch was asked, "did you see a UFO?'''
"I did,'' Kucinich said.
"And the rest of the account -- I didn't -- I -- it was unidentified flying object, okay. It's like -- it's unidentified. I saw something.
"Now, to answer your question,'' Kucinich said, "'m moving my -- and I'm also going to move my campaign office to Roswell, New Mexico and another one, an extra, to New Hampshire, okay... And also, you have to keep in mind that more -- that Jimmy Carter saw a UFO, and also that more people in this country have seen UFOs than, I think, approve of George Bush's presidency.''
Questioner Tim Russert replied: "14 percent of Americans say they
have seen UFOs.''
In the post-debate interviews, Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico said he is happy to promote tourism in Roswell, but he has never seen a UFO.

Comments
Tim Russert, what does this have to do with the price of tea in China or serious debate. Sometimes you can ask some of the numb nuttiest questions.

What's so weird about seeing a UFO? Wasn't there a pretty spectacular close encounter at O'Hare this past year....observed by a number of people? At least this guy is honest. And it seems more believable than having God telling you what to do like our current president claims.

I've experienced quite a few things that can't be explained in scientific logic, I keep an open mind. I'd rather support a man who admits to a UFO experience than one who asks me to buy into political lies. Kucinich wasn't using a UFO to promote his candidacy. He was just being honest and I guess that makes him a bad candidate.

Tim Russert follows the party line, orthodoxy, and the exultation of the lowest common denominator.
Rep. Dennis Kucinch of Ohio is the sort of true American patriot that this country DESPERATELY needs in the White House!
Thank you.

I think, on the contrary, this is a VERY important question. If the populace stopped watching TV and started considering that fact that more than 20 million Americans ALONE claim abduction status... if you look to the bible for explanation of what God Almighty has ALLOWED Satan to perpetrate against humanity (Book of Job) - and if you listen to what NASA has and IS STILL covering up... pay attention to the fact that this is a US Congressperson admitting this. Just like the AZ Governor... just like Jimmy Carter... just like MULTITUDES of Military Personnel... Law Enforcement Officials... as well as the "averare Joe"... Its a VERY important question... Look around yourself. Lift your head up and ALLOW YOURSELF to see the truth... GOOGLE IT... UFOs... Aliens... Alien Abduction... go here to start

it is impossable to see what the mind wont let you see , so you are trying to see somthing in your mind so you are going to see that image no matter what ....this is pergitory there is no exit , as far as you can see.. stop dreaming of posibilites and start focusing on how to get out of this maddness
Posted by: john doe | October 31, 2007 7:34 AM
what does this have to do with anything. are we trying to make him look like a nut. people already think hes nuts just for the fact that he cares about the earth and cares about this country not falling apart. he is the ONLY candidate worth anything. and i think everyone knows that. and for some reason when america gets someone running that will actually make a diference they tend to make them into idiots in order to get people in that will mess things up. not that anyone can mess things up more then bush already did. but we have been programmed through the years to except smooth talkers like obama and clinton and when someone cares we label him a nut. SO WHAT if he saw a UFO... whats his plan on saving the environment! whats his plan on saving our nation! not have you seen a ufo? whats wrong with us?
Posted by: tsmith | October 31, 2007 7:41 AM
He is not alone as not only did POTUS Carter see a UFO while a nuclear technician in the Navy, but POTUS Reagan saw one too on AF-1! He also gave a speech at the UN in where he warned about defensive action against such otherworldly visitors. So if 2 POTUS's can see UFO's why can't a POTUS hopeful???
P.S. - POTUS Eisenhower and Truman were allegedly directly involved with the post-WW2 UFO 'problem' - close up and personal (allegedly).

Not only did Kucinich answer the question, but in the after-debate analysis, MSNBC's Chris Matthews asked New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson about UFOs in New Mexico.
Richardson mentioned Roswell and said the government had not been open about it.
Matthews tried to pin him down further about a cover up, though somewhat jokingly.
Richardson basically backed away from the questions.
These events seem similar to former Arizona governor Fife Symington saying recently that he saw the "Phoenix Lights" triangle-shaped object.

I was up last night watching that... I am glad that it was brought up, just not at that time, The spokes guy said "this is a serious thing" People just need to be a little more open minded... I didnt like how the audience laughed at it...

I think it's a good deal better to have a man who saw a UFO and admits it than a man who sees pink elephants.
And when Bush isn't seeing pink elephants, he sees nothing, even when something is right in front of his face, like all the blood and horror for which he is responsible.

Hillary saw a UFO in the White House one day. Or was that Monica's beret sailing through the air?

So the magic leprechaun saw an alien spacecraft over Shirley McClain's house? Uh huh ... and you loons believe him, and think he is a potentially fine president? Well ... that just says it all ... doesn't it?

Well, the Art Bell/Coast-to-Coast faction reads the Swamp. Look at that.
Posted by: JB | October 31, 2007 10:48 AM
Heh, If you'll recall, Giuliani responded to a town hall question by saying that he was prepared to deal with intergalactic invaders. Couple this with Kucinich's sighting and Richardson's insistence that the government is not being honest about Roswell and I'm starting to wonder if this will be the defining issue of the campaign...
Posted by: Entropy | October 31, 2007 10:55 AM
I have seen a UFO. I was 6, or so at the time. A half dozen of us, including a number of adults, saw a shining object in the sky. One self-appointed expert said that it was a weather balloon. It may have been, if fact it probably was. But since we didn't have a positive ID, it is by definition an _unidentified_ flying object.
Note: Nowhere did Kucinich say he saw a "flying saucer". He saw something flying that he couldn't identify.
What trash journalism to even ask the question, and what trash journalism of the Trib to tie him to space alien theorists with a faked photo of a flying saucer.
Posted by: Rance | October 31, 2007 11:04 AM
There are just trying to make Kucinich look like an idiot. But whats wrong with being an idiot...we got one in the whitehouse right now. Kucinich is a 100 times smarter than the moron thats in the whithouse right now
Posted by: Kenneyh Cox | October 31, 2007 11:25 AM
My ideal ticket would be Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. I once saw Dennis speak in Venice, CA. I approached him as he was leaving the stage and told him that UFO disclosure was an important issue to me. He replied, "I know what you mean." This is serious, people. I am a former contributing editor at UFO MAGAZINE and have attended MUFON meetings and UFO conferences for 12 years.
Posted by: Camille | October 31, 2007 11:28 AM
Hey Rance,
I saw flying saucers and monsters and ghosts too when I was 5 ... but then I grew up. Don't you think it is about time?
Posted by: K W Smith | October 31, 2007 11:35 AM
I don't know whether there are or are not UFO's, but wouldn't you say given the size of the universe that the chances are greater that there is other intelligent life than that humans are the only intelligent (I use the term loosely, clearly) beings in the universe?
Project for a New American Century (yes they are kooks, but different kinds of kooks) said that the New World Order of U.S. hegemony would need to be inspired by either a "new Pearl Harbor" or an alien invasion.
I personally think its arrogant to think we are the only forces in the universe.

Dear Southpaw:
Nearly all of those "20 million Americans" who claim that they were abducted live in the southern states and vote Republican.
That says it all right there.
Posted by: BC | October 31, 2007 12:11 PM
K W Smith, you and JB sound like the kind of guys who actually believed the four decades laters crash test dummies "disclosure" story. Most of us sighters and Coast to Coast AM types, unlike you, know that weather balloons and Venus don't glow in plasma colors or change direction instantly in flight in response to nearby craft. Camille's right, if we could get Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich into high office, the difference in integrity would be big.

I'm tempted to despair for humanity given the number of kooks who believe in UFO's and think that the looney Left will save us from an "alien invasion". I must be lost in a swamp and if I get out I'll not come here again.

BC, please provide PROOF that the 20 million who claim to be abducted by aliens vote Republican.
Anyway, I did see a UFO one time. In fact, I saw it land and I saw creatures walk of it. They called themselves Loony Left Kook Zombies and kept repeating: Noun, verb, 9/11. Noun, verb, 9/11. Noun, verb, 9/11.
Someone calling itself Dennis Kucinich was their leader.
Scary, huh???

Posted by: Bud McFarlin | October 31, 2007 3:07 PM
KW, you're not smart enough to realize when you've been rebutted. It's a fact that disk and similar craft which we observe, at least prior to maybe sometime toward the 90s, were not of earth origin. Your lame inability to defend yourself, let alone change your beliefs in front of abundant evidence (if you ever seriously looked) exposes itself in the fact you have no better answer than feeble mockery. No, I was never abducted, though many thousands of people have who weren't looking for publicity and weren't making it up, not that you would research enough to know that. I'd tell you I simply made a scientific observation of craft you don't believe can exist, but as you proved, rational dialog is wasted on people like you. Keep scoffing, and maybe the reality of it will land you in the nuthouse when it sinks in.

People say there are no UFOs, do they have proof? You can't deny the unknown.

I'm sending Dennis a campaign contribution, and I hope the rest of the "silent majority" of ufo witnesses do the same.
Don't let the government propaganda machine tell you what you have seen isn't real.
A president should have the guts to tell it like it is.

Hats off once again to Mr. Kucinich for having the courage to tell the truth. Boo to the media who are supposed to fiercely investigate serious issues, but instead belittle the subject because its the safe thing to do.
I hope that someday, someone in the mainstream media grows a spine, like Mr. Kucinich, and looks into important issues like the UFO phenomena.

I can't believe how brainless some of you are.
Do you have ANY idea how much trash is around our planet from every launch to put a satellite in orbit???
It doesn't stay up there forever you know, sooner or later it's going come down and burn up in our atmosphere, and some of those pieces can be as big as a car.
What the heck do you think happened to all those 1st stage rockets??? They didn't just vanish you know.
If we can watch satellites pass overhead on a clear night, it stands to reason we can also see large pieces of space junk passing by, or burning up too!

I didn't realize so many men ( I am assuming they are men) feel so small and inadequate. All the comments about the height of Kucinich! What matters the size of his brain and heart. Obviously these people focused on how tall Kucinich is have a real problem with self acceptance and the size of their brains.........which must be pea-sized............Kucinich is a giant compared to most people.

I like Dennis Kucinich. He seems to be very honest. The UFO thing is not strange at all--this is an awful large universe. Big deal. Most of the posters here seem to have an open mind--to me that shows faith and hopefulness. I wish Timmy (Meet The Tim) would have asked everyone on stage the same UFO question.
Timmy's MO:

I am so encouraged by all the people who seem to approve of Dennis Kucinich. Maybe if we all contribute to his campaign and get after the Democrates we can get a real, honest, human being for president. It needs to be kept in mind, as one poster already said, he saw something he didn't recognize. People chose to interpert that as "alien spaceship." Also, I agree witih the people who say this is really just an attempt to make him look silly. I think it must be a great compliment to what the man has to say. It seems to me that someone--maybe a great many someones--are very threatened by this man. Keep going, Dennis. You're the "man."

Posted by: Sam | November 22, 2007 12:04 AM
I really don't think that this is a real UFO because at my old house me and my parents was outside and we seen one and I went inside to get a camera and by the time I got back outside it was already gone. I really don't think that a UFO would stay there if it had something in it like an alien and if it did not have something then it would not be in the air. Duh. I mean if you are going to fake something then have some common sence and and fake it better than that. Got it.
