The Swamp

by John McCormick

TRENTON, N.J. – Sen. Barack Obama will have been to three states by midday today, although don't equate that to an exhaustive day of campaigning.

The Illinois Democrat just landed here, en route to an afternoon economic and clean energy event in Fairless Hills, Pa., the start of his campaign's six-week tour through Pennsylvania in advance of that state's April 22 primary.

Obama spent the night at a Holiday Inn Express in Greenville, Miss., where he stopped last night to hit an additional media market before today's Mississippi primary, a contest where he is heavily favored.

After working out this morning at a local YMCA, he visited Greenville's Buck’s Restaurant for breakfast and photos. During his hour-long stop, the media learned a few more details about the object of their observations: he likes his eggs "scrambled hard" and he wears a Secret Service watch.

Obama reminded the restaurant's patrons to vote and said improvements in the Mississippi Delta are all about education and economic opportunity.

“If you haven’t voted, you have to vote now,” he said.

“We need some jobs!” someone called out.

“I promise when I’m president of the United States, I’ll come back to the Delta,” Obama said to cheers. “You all keep me in your prayers, now.”

Obama was twice asked if he believes New York Gov. Eliott Spitzer should resign, following allegation that he was involved with high-priced call girls. He twice ducked the question.

Buck’s is a no frills diner tucked into a down-at-the-heel strip mall, four doors down from the Washington County Work Center, where signs on the wall say, “Do the crime, pay the fine or work the time!!”

Obama ate breakfast with a group of supporters that included former Mississippi Gov. Ray Mabus.

Early this evening, Obama is expected to fly back to Chicago, where he is expected to get to sleep in his own bed for the rest of the week. His campaign will essentially commute from the city all week, whether to Pennsylvania, Indiana or Washington, D.C.

Interesting that Mr. McCormick identifies Obama as a Democrat but not the scandal-ridden Eliot Spitzer. Don't bother with your cover-up, we know from other media what party Spitzer belongs to. He and Bill Clinton may be brothers under the skin after all...so to speak.

Obama was twice asked if he believes New York Gov. Eliott Spitzer should resign, following allegation that he was involved with high-priced call girls.

Did GOP Senator Vitter resign?

check out this odd choice for spitzer legal team..
http://johnnydoom.blogspot.com/2008/03/new-york-governor-spitzer-linked-to.html

Obama should have told that crowd to ask Hillary about that kind of stuff!!! SHE HAS THE EXPERIENCE when it comes to the 3am question!!!!

FINALLY!!! We are able to link Obama into the Spitzer story!!! At last the missing swamp link!!!

"“We need some jobs!” someone called out.

“I promise when I’m president of the United States, I’ll come back to the Delta,” Obama said to cheers. “You all keep me in your prayers, now.”

Obama makes a totally meaningless promise, and they cheer.

I don't know which is sadder, Obama's emptiness, or the emptiness of his supporters.

Funny he wants to help the delta region now that he needs their votes. Where was he when the disastrous hurricane whipped through? The Sen. Trent Lott has been on record (before this primary season) as giving Sen. Clinton credit as the most supportive senator that was not from the region.

I agree Eugene. That's what he's been all about from the start. Lots of hot air and rhetoric, no substance. His supporters, those zombies that they are, don't even care to listen to him - he's the greatest thing to them, period! This is so eerily like the Bush campaign in 2000. I guess it's time for the Democrats to play the stupid game now.

DON'T BE DUPED!!!

Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. And because they feel that a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket would be unbeatable. And also because with a Clinton and Obama ticket you are almost 100% certain to get quality, affordable universal health care very fast.

You see, the medical and insurance industry mostly support the republicans with the money they ripped off from you. And they don’t want you to have quality, affordable universal health care. They want to be able to continue to rip you off, and kill you and your children by continuing to deny you life saving medical care. So they can make more profit for them-self.

Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama’s. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!

As much as 30% of Obama's primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help.

If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. Because the vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is. YOUNG PEOPLE. DON’T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose.

The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. I suggest a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket now! All democrats need to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton. So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.

Fortunately the Clinton’s have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic comebacks of Hillary Clinton’s. Only the Clinton’s are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen.

You should be angry America. “This is not a game” (Hillary Clinton)

Sincerely

jacksmith...

If jobs are what people really want then mandatory healthcare has to be passed. In 2005, the Detroit News outlined this exact problem. It costs then 1400 per car or $4.00 per employee per hour just in healthcare. In Canada that figure drops dramatically to $200. per year. If Clinton's plan is adopted, and all are covered the company liability goes down and jobs increase, Obama's does not change this due to business liability still an issue. Funny both state insurance will be affordable however only Clinton puts in an garented small % of your income will be used. Lets look at this if it's 5% that would equal $5 per $100 in income.

i think Sen. Obama is right to remain mum. All of those people comdemning Gov. Spitzer should cast the first stone..Can anyone cast the first stone?

Obama has more substance and more elected experience than say-anything-to-get-elected-Hillary. I am glad that a majority of states, and citizens agree, and see the truth. Obama '08. Clintons, go home!

Obama or Clinton have nothing to do with Spitzer's action's why are they being asked over and over again what they think? This has nothing to do with them. They are too busy trying to campaign. Leave this to the court's and hopefully they will put Spitzer behind bars. He is a stupid hypocrit and deserve's to be punished after doing the opposite of what he has been preaching.

Ca'mon, give Obama a break, you have to remember, he is a political rookie. And that is exactly what we have to ask ourselves, "do we really want this ROOKIE running the country?" I think not. And I thought Hillary would say anything to get elected!

actually linda @ 3:57 pm, spitzer's situation has more an impact on hillary because he is one of her superdelegates. however, i do think it's wise that ALL presidential candidates remain silent about the matter and focus on the rest of the electorate.

Clinton is the Junior senator from the state of New York and has the same basic constituency as the embattled Governor. If she shares in his glories, she must also denounce and reject his bad behavior and mistreatment of his family.
Obama was forced on National television to reject and denounce Farrakan. What's good for the goose....

Barack had to see what Hillary had to say before answering. Taking a moral stand is hard for Senator Present.

I have to say, all males have sexual weakness and their employment doesn't take that into account, meaning on job apps doesn't require sexual preferences. Baruck Osama also has hidden sexual agenda, his homosexual past relationships.

What is our country coming to when the votes aren't really worth anything. You don't need to go to the polls and vote, just ask CNN, they tell you before the primaries, who will win the state. Obama is the only one they push on CNN. It appears he can do no wrong. Hillary is never in their limelight. Why vote, just put Obama in the White House. CNN already did.

Jacksmith,
Why don't you quit posting the same pathetic post everywhere everyday, or better yet just change your name to JACKASS

Jacksmith, you're SICK!

I don't know which is sadder, Obama's emptiness, or the emptiness of his supporters.

Eugene,

Any candidate that would have answered, "We're going to get you jobs!" would have been even more disingenuous.

What Barack should have answered was, "Well, go to France. McCain just sent your jobs there."

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

jacksmith raises the right point...as recently as this past Saturday my hairdresser (a staunch conservative and normally a Republican voter) noted with pride that she and all of her friends voted in the Virginia primary for Obama to "get Hillary out"

THE WAR IN IRAQ IS HAVING SERIOUS NEGATIVE EFFECTS on our economy and that those who voted for the war (Hillary) should be to blame, in part, for the state of the US economy.

Look how the WAR IN IRAQ is affecting the US economy...

$3,000,000,000 - $3 billion PER WEEK! – That is the amount we're paying for the Iraq War– money that should have been used here, at home.

Add to this:

Interest. We are financing the war with borrowed money (e.g. treasuries) so in actuality, we're the war is costing the United States MORE than $ 3 billion PER WEEK.

Higher oil and energy prices. Instability in Iraq is adding roughly 30 dollars per barrel as a premium.

High oil prices mean high utility bills. Due to high oil prices, demand shifts to other sources of energy - nat gas, coal, etc. - and greater demand will raise the equilibrium price of all sources of energy -- Can you say high energy bills?

Higher oil prices (a raw material used in the production of many goods, fertilizers, gasoline, diesel, plastics, etc.) mean higher prices of goods and services -- Can you say INFLATION?

Higher oil prices mean a higher trade deficit because most of our oil comes from foreign sources. A higher trade deficit means more money is leaving the country than is coming into the country -- Can you say 'Goodbye money!'

Our US dollar is weak and getting weaker. Since we have a trade deficit, the value of goods and services we import exceeds the value of goods we export. You know that foreign car you're thinking of buying or the computer you're using, or that trip abroad you've been thinking of taking....well, guess what? It is going to cost more, Ceteris Peribus, because the dollar's value is declining.

Lastly, how do you think the world views our country because of this war? The evidence was weak and circumstantial, yet we rushed into war with Iraq thanks to Hillary’s authorization.

"GOVERNOR BARBOUR SPEAKS"

ASK HIM HOW HE LIKES HIS "GUMBO."

I GOT 100 MILLION DOLLARS FROM THE KATRINA FUND, AND I SURELY COULD ROUND UP SOME "CHURCH'S" CHICKEN AROUND THESE PARTS.

ASK HIM, GO ON NOW! ASK THE MAN.

100 MILLION DOLLARS WELL SHUCKS WE CAN BUY ALL OF MISSISSIPPI SOME "CHURCH'S" CHICKEN, SKIN OR NO SKIN.

WHAT ABOUT MY 100 MILLION DOLLARS, THAT AIN'T FO NO STINKIN JOBS. THAT'S FOR MCCAIN AND MY FAMILY.

STIKIN JOBS, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YA, STOP ACTING AS THOUGH YA'LL ALL KATRINA VICTIMS STILL OUT IN THE RAIN.

NOW GO AHEAD AND ASK THE MAN!

If they're willing to vote in the Democratic primary to get rid of Hillary, don't you think even more would vote in the general election that way? Think it might be related to the 47% or so of America that already disapproves of her?

Face it - Hillary has almost as many people hating her as Bush does, and we're supposed to think she can win a general election?

bsandler, You're right! So many Rep. voted for Obama in VA (anyone could vote for any party here) just to keep Hillary out, as she is the biggest threat here. VA is pro Rep. in Pres. elections, the last Dem. voted in was Kennedy. This is the first time that they ran out of Dem. ballots in several areas, which has caused a lot of angry voters.

Obama could not get elected by a board of directors to run any major corporation in this Country yet people think he is ready to run the most powerful Country in the World. He is supposed to be the choice of the better educated, younger voter ... mostly college kids who have not worked at a job themselves. What do they really know?

jacksmith: do you think this 'copy and paste' text of yours really says a whole lot for the candidate you support. how lame.

Obama is our Savior. We should be ashamed, Texas, Rode Island, Ohio arrogantly voted for clinton. Michelle is not proud of america now. Obama will change an evil america and treaty with our muslim brothers and apologize for an arrogant america. Obama fights against oppressive racist america and gives us and Michelle something to be proud about.

Bill & Hillary Clinton and Spitzer are good buds. She must be felling some deja-vu.

At first, one might Republicans getting Hillary out of the race is the best idea, simply because some see her as a more formidable general election opponent. However, I do think Barack Obama is showing he is very capable of not only becoming the next president of the United States of America, but also being a good one. I am in no way involved with any of these campaigns; that is just my own opinion.

What is this? Where do you get to see the real numbers which nobody else has access to? Just stop winning and accept the defeat like a man.

I've never seen such a bitter group of people as the Hillary supporters who blog. Very unimpressive, uninspiring, and reflective of the politics that we need to move beyond....and, by the way, I had until recently been contributing to the campaign, so it's not like I don't have a measure of respect for Hillary. Not that I support her any longer...

What kind of idiot likes his eggs 'scrambled hard?' You've got to have them soft and runny if you're going to be my candidate.
