Obama on Fox News: Hot-button special: The Swamp

The Swamp

by Christi Parsons

Barack Obama may not be planning to debate Hillary Clinton again before the Indiana primary, but he did sit down with FOX News Sunday to hash over a few touchy subjects in an interview that aired this morning.

Obama's decision not to debate Clinton came out during the interview with Chris Wallace, who finally got the candidate to make good on a 2-year-old promise to come on the show by running a weekly update on how overdue he was on his pledge.

"I'm not ducking," Obama said of the debate question. "We've had 21."

Wallace devoted a rare three segments to the Obama interview, dwelling on hot-button issues before asking Obama about domestic and foreign policy issues.

The hot-button highlights:

* On his friendly relationship with former Weather Underground member Bill Ayers: Obama wondered why people are talking about Ayers, at whose home Obama once attended a political event, and not about the fact that he has friends in the Republican Party and "on the religious right." The relationship with Ayers is "far more tangential," he said.

* On Rev. Wright: He said he didn't have a discussion with his controversial former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, about the personal campaign Wright has launched this weekend to defend himself from weeks of criticism about his theology of black liberation and some incendiary sermons. Obama said he thinks people were "legitimately offended" by some of Wright's past remarks and agreed that his association with Wright makes that a legitimate issue for discussion.

But he said he thinks the short snippets of Wright sermons that were run on television "simplified and caricatured" him in a way that seemed "deliberate."

"He is somebody who has obviously been the subject of some pretty sharp attacks," Obama said. "It's understandable that somebody . . . would want to defend themselves."

* On that persistent flag-pin issue: "I've worn flag pins in the past," said Obama, "I will wear flag pins in the future." Equating failure to wear a flag pin on a given day with being unpatriotic is "a distraction," he said.

* On the question of a racial divide in the Democratic primary: "Is race still a factor in our society? Yes," said Obama. "Is that going to be the determining factor in a general election? No." If he doesn't win, it won't be because of race, he says, but because he wasn't "communicating my plans."

* On anger among his supporters if the superdelegates nominate Clinton when he still holds the delegate lead: "I think there would be some frustration there," said Obama, citing a woman he met just the other day who doesn't seem like she'd vote for Clinton if Obama gets passed over. Then he predicted that Democrats would unite in the fall.

The policy highlights:

Asked to point out specific issues on which he might break with Democrats, Obama spoke generally about the problems of regulating industry and about challenging teachers' unions on improving education.

He said he would vote to confirm Gen. David Petraeus as Centcom commander, taking pains to praise him for a "good tactical job in Iraq." But while he would be "stupid to ignore" the advice Petraeus might offer against troop withdrawal, Obama said his role would be to listen to the assessment but to "set the mission" and take a broader view as commander in chief.

The military "has no strategic reserve right now," Obama argued. "If we have an emergency in the Korean peninsula" or elsewhere, the country doesn't have the personnel available to respond.

Obama may have been annoyed to be asked all the hot-button questions, but he was surely expecting them. Wallace's show goes straight into the living rooms of many of the voters Obama will have to win over if he wants to win in Indiana, and Wallace didn't ask about anything they're not thinking about.

But it might be another long stretch before Wallace gets Obama back in the interview chair.

The biggest losers here are the American people.

To the media:

IT'S THE ISSUES STUPID!

The silence about 'Black LiberationTheology' in mainstream press is similar to the silence about the Conference at Medellin, following Vatican II.
Liberation Theology helped brave priests resist American corporation abuse--sanctioned by our government in that region--since at least the 50s.
Seems to me the Catholic version of liberation theology in Central America has a LOT in common with what Rev. Wright discussed with Bill Moyers.
i have not seen the Fox interview. I'll read the transcript so as not to give the strange network any money.

I wouldn't want to debate Senator Tonya Harding either! The Clinton's have been knee-capping Obama for months now, why give her free publicity when she is clearly out of funds?

Even in SADDAM's regime, TV was not so much pro Saddam as FOX is PRO-REPUBLICAN.

Rather than endless repeats of puff-ball interviews with Obama, perhaps the Trib ought to start doing some investigation of the candidate they are so heavily backing.

So far, other newspapers, even out-of-town newspapers, have scooped the Trib on Obama's being a tax scofflaw, on Bill Ayers, on Jeremiah Wright, on Tony Rezko, in fact on everything. The latest is in another Chicago newspaper which, like Obama's middle name, shall go unnamed:

"Ex-fugitive put up homes to spring Rezko
FEDERAL COURT | Ex-Iraq fugitive, a longtime pal, covers a third of his $8.5M bail

BY NATASHA KORECKI, TIM NOVAK AND CHRIS FUSCO Staff Reporters

An ex-international fugitive helped spring Tony Rezko from jail earlier this month, putting up homes that comprise nearly one-third of the $8.5 million in property and cash securing Rezko's bail, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.

The three homes belonging to former Iraqi Electricity Minister Aiham Alsammarae -- a dual U.S.-Iraqi citizen who broke out of a Baghdad jail in 2006 -- are part of a long list made public in Rezko's case Friday following a Sun-Times request. Six of the other individuals who pledged property to get Rezko out of the Metropolitan Correctional Center on April 18 are current or former state employees.

Nearly a third of the $8.5 million in cash and property that won Tony Rezko's (left) release came from Aiham Alsammarae (right), who escaped from a Baghdad jail in 2006.
(Rich Hein/Sun-Times/AP)

Tony Rezko's $8.5 million bail is being secured by properties and cash linked to friends and family. Here are many of those people and what they'd forfeit if Rezko flees:

* Former Iraqi Electricity Minister Aiham Alsammarae and his wife, Amura: an Oak Brook mansion and two South Loop condominiums

* Illinois Department of Central Management Services employee Mustafa Abdalla: house in Libertyville

* Shant and Layla Avakian: house in Morton Grove

* Ali M. Bagdadi and Darlene Bagdadi: two-story retail building in Chicago

* Abir Dawli: property in Emerson, N.J.

* Frederick Dawli: property in Paramus, N.J.

* Basim Dihu: house in Des Plaines

* Former Illinois Department of Central Management Services employee Ferras Elshair: house in Darien

* Illinois Public Health Department Employee Rosemarie Karim: house in Chicago

* Illinois Department of Central Management Services employee Donald J. Lynch: house in Deerfield

* Dr. George and Inam Malki: property in Heathrow, Fla.

* Roger Malki: condo in South Loop

* Illinois secretary of state employee Sue Merjan and her husband, George: a house in Orland Park and a North Side condo

* Sahar A. Nammari: home in Bartlett

* Theodora A. Ohanis: condo in Chicago

* Karam Razko: house in Hinsdale

* Burt R. Rezko: house on South Side

* Kinda Rezko: house on Northwest Side

* Rezekalla Rezko: house in Orland Hills

* Illinois Department of Central Management Services employee Jenan S. Shamoun: house in Elk Grove Village
SOURCE: Court records

Alsammarae put up $1.9 million in equity in his Oak Brook mansion, along with $840,000 in equity from two South Loop condominiums, according to court records. In recent days, he appeared in the downtown federal courthouse to pledge his property and signed papers related to Rezko's bail. That proceeding, however, was conducted in a private session with U.S. District Judge Amy J. St. Eve and lawyers. Records from it weren't immediately released.

Interpol warrant active

International intrigue surrounds Alsammarae, who dramatically fled Iraq in late 2006 after being held on a corruption conviction he maintains was groundless. He and Rezko have been friends since they were classmates at the Illinois Institute of Technology in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

U.S. court papers recently revealed that the feds once accused Rezko, a native of Syria, of paying Alsammarae a $1.5 million bribe when Alsammarae was electricity minister."

Obama likes to flirt, smirk and pretend that questions that cut to the core of his credibility, character and judgment don't matter. He's dead wrong.

Mr. Obama, if you truly believe in a united America and are "post racial," why for the last 25 years have you aligned yourself and your family with the hateful, anti-America, anti-white, anti-semitic rhetoric of Jeremiah Wright and the Black Nationalist movement?

Mr. Obama, if you are truly the great uniter, why have you donated tens of thousands of dollars, including $26,000 last year alone, to Jeremiah Wright to further his message of hate and diviseness?

Mr. Obama, why did it take the media and plummeting poll numbers to jolt you out of what can only be described as a racist stupor to address, however inadequately, your association with racism and hate?

Mr. Obama?

I wonder why Fox and other MSM have not reported Hillary's comment that she would "obliterate Iran". I think it would be beneficial to look at how this is playing with allies and enemies abroad.
Fox has chosen Hillary as they know (hope) McCain will beat her. Knowing how dirty she is I say be careful what you wish for.

Obama stepped on Alice Palmer's NECK and now this REAL, LONG-TERM, never SOLD OUT to REZKO to RUIN public housing activist gets to campaign for Hillary.
Ya gotta love it!

Newspapers are a wonderful thing! Have been for quite a while.
So are Knock-knock jokes.
Knock Knock!
Who's there?

So fox rehashed the same BS questions as the debate with Charles Gibson.

Why did he even appear?

I long for the day of a policy related discussion with any of the candidates.

Obama and Hillary having "Lincoln and Douglas style" debates? That's like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan doing "Albert Schweitzer and Mother Theresa style" humanitarian work. Please excuse us while we roll over in our graves.

The fact is Obama was given a free ride by the MSM. Find out what they don't want you to know;

Wallace continues to perpetuate the "spin", what a pathetic mouthpiece.

One might wonder why, in these troubles times, the media will not do their job and focus on the issues...

It seems deliberate and complicit; totally unconscionable.

We, "The People", will be the losers if these distractions succeed.

Again, to the Media:
IT'S THE ISSUES STUPID!

Tortian,
Watch the interview Wright gave with Moyers on Friday night before you pollute our public sphere with your ad hominem nonsense. It's this kind of tripe that embarasses me about this country.

People want Oba,a to roll arounf in the dirt like Desperate, Patheti Hillary. He doesnt want to and he does not have to. Face it folks , he's leading..In reality, which Queen Hillary refuse to publically acknowledge. She is living a fairy tale version of the true statistics. No, Hillary you arent the winner.Cant stand how she thinks she can undermind American voters... Obama will win the nomination and go on to be President. If you cant accept it , you must eventually still swallow it like we did with King Bush for the past 8 years. Big Ups to Obama !!!!!

Here's a hot button that I don't see on the list:
How about Obama receiving money from the oil industry, but lying about it and telling us he doesn't?

You've already lost Shillary, get over it and PLEASE take your bra burning, over-the-hill, psycho-feminist fanclub with you when you leave!

Wanna hear a REAL problem with truth?
It's Obama's duck of the real, national news media.
Seems like a kid who was raised by a bank vice president, don't it?
There were not 21 debates. Just 4 with the one candidate the news media could not eliminate FOR the junior Senator from IL.
And how'd he get there?
He threw Alice Palmer under the bus.
Read it:

Newspapers are a beautiful thing. they help not just with literacy, but with math too.

Hillary doesn't deserve to even stand on the same stage as Obama let alone have a debate with him anymore.

I'm glad Obama is finally taking some swings back at her, she has ran such a lowlife scumbag slash and burn campaign that it would even make Karl Rove blush.

The Clintons are showing us their trues faces, the faces that were kept hidden from the public for all of these years, and it ain't a pretty sight.

We have Bill telling us unapologetically that he did Monica "because he could".

We have Clinton lying about Tuzla, and then lying to try and cover her lies.

These people are hardened politicos, and will stop at nothing to win steal the nomination, just like the Bush family in 2000.

Both the Bushes and the Clintons know that they could not win fair and square, so they deem that the end justifies the means for them.

They both think that the American public are sheeple to be fleeced, lied to and manipulated and they both have zero integrity.

It is laughable that they call themselves "Christians".

I never warmed up to the Clintons, even though I voted for Bill twice, and maybe intuitively, deep down I sensed something was lacking.

Now I despise them both and I will never change my mind about them.

Shillary has already LOST and it would only give her over-the-hill feminist nutjob supporters more reason to try and smear Obama and destroy the Democratic Party.

As far as I'm concerned, these nutty Shillary feminists/fans can go vote for McCain or go chase parked cars or whatever else they do in their spare time, just get lost, go have a bra burning party or whatever. You were never real democrats anyway because the last time I checked we didn't have a monarchy anymore which means Shillary is not going to be the queen.

If we get a McCain Presidency it will be their fault and the bomb bomb Iran, 100 years in Iraq they get will be what they deserve.

Obama's real problem is his refusal to indulge in so-called 'negative' attacks. So when Clinton(s) chime in and take a punch at Obama he meekly talks of "changing the way Washington works." when voters want to hear him fight back against Hillary the liar. Step it up, Barack, your chance to make history will never be nearer. Don't blow it now.

The vast right wing conspiracy told Wallace to go easy on Sen. Obama.
Fox News refuses to accept the fact that most Americans with an IQ under 70 expect Clinton to be President for life!
The mouthbreathing, angry and not so bright Clintonites foam at the mouth every time Sen. Obama refuses to get back on the Clinton Plantation.

Obama should use his "talents" to clean up Chicago before he tries to fix the massive amounts of problem in this country. He didnt do anything for llinois, he did nothing in the U.S Senate but because of some great oratory people think hecan solve everything. Why isnt he e assisting his home state with their problems .All he has to do is give his famous speeches in Chicago and all the violence will stop. Yes,there will be rainbows, there will be world peace, tommrrow is a bright new day with Obama, he will bring us all togther, etc etctc. Too too funny. !!!! No-Bama 008 . He CANNOT WIN !!! Us "bitter" middle Americans wont vote for him

This article in today’s Boston Globe Online scares me about Hillary:

“There are some red lines that should never be crossed. Clinton did so Tuesday morning, the day of the Pennsylvania primary, when she told ABC's "Good Morning America" that, if she were president, she would "totally obliterate" Iran if Iran attacked Israel.
...
“This foolish and dangerous threat was muted in domestic media coverage. But it reverberated in headlines around the world.”
....
“A presidential candidate who lightly commits to obliterating Iran - and, presumably, all the children, parents, and grandparents in Iran - should not be answering the White House phone at any time of day or night.”

We have had enough of an “us vs them” warmongering administration for eight years. We need a President who emphasizes diplomacy and leads our country in creating that attitude toward foreign policy. I believe that Barack Obama is the person with the integrity, judgment and vision to lead our country in the right direction.

21? There has not been 21 one on one debates between Obama and Hillary or did I miss them all? Man-up Obama and debate the lady.

Wow John E. Lately every one of your copy-and-paste posts includes the terms "feminazis" "bra burning", "feminist nutjobs".
You really have a serious problem with women, don't you? So I guess your Big Tent is all male. I'm not surprised.

The Obama Duck Had 21 debates with whom?
Were there in the Dreamworld of Stuuter and Stammer Land?

Re: Winghunter's comments:

Oh yeah, keep repeating his middle name (Hussein). After all, the Repugnicans saying "9/11" and "Iraq" in the same sentence, even though they were unrelated, eventually worked.

Keep repeating that, since you can't call him the word (the n-word) that you'd REALLY like to.

Its too funny that Obama cant take the heat of debating. When the hard questions come, he folds like a house of cards. Weak, ineffective, childish.
Too bad he cant just force Hillary out like he did Alice Palmer. Yah. Good guy that he is.

As the first 21 debates have shown, there are only tiny differences between Obama and Clinton on policy questions. So it really is a question of personality and appeal. Let's settle this thing by a series of contests: bowling, mud wrestling, horse, drinking, rock paper scissors, shrapnel dodging and so on. For sure those contests will teach us more than another dumb debate.

Well, you sure can tell when the blog talking points get text-messaged, when the arugula salads arrive at Obama HQ.
Shill= Julie Mack = Angellight.
C'mon.
Remember what he did to Alice Palmer, now.
Can you really trust a guy who acts like that?
THE REAL QUESTION about Iran was how BOTH of them answered the question--and we'd all best UNITE around this:
Why didn't EITHER Barack or Hillary (and that's or name, SWAMP--PLEASE STOP LETTING HILLARY CLINTON'S NAME BE TRASHED BY THE OBAMA HQ LIKE THIS) say :
"Your hypothetical assumes an attack on Israel. The first thing we'd have to do is decide what's in America's best interests."
That's what we (not 'black Americans' or 'white Americans' as Eric Michael Dyson-Obama surrogate says) had ALL better start focusing on.

The people of Indiana have not yet had the opportunity to hear you go one-on-one with Hillary. They deserve that opportunity. Don't be afraid to debate her. It will appear to the voters that you are weak.

Who cares about the fact that he challenged signatures for Alice Palmer? Seriously. That's Basic Campaigning 101. Obama isn't the first and certainly won't be the last to do that.

If you think politics is a world where everyone holds hands and teaches the world to sing while drinking Coke, you're seriously delusional.

Clinton would have more ground to stand on if she actually debated her opponents when she was ahead in her Senatorial races.

Once again, the Clinton's want to have it both ways.

When Hillary thought that she was going to win the nomination in a cake walk, she agreed not to count MI and FL. Now that she needs MI and FL, she wants both states to count - even though no one campaigned in MI and FL. Indeed, had both states been contested, any victories she might have won would likely have still left her short.

Once again, folks, look at the big picture. Hillary Clinton was wrong on healthcare when she headed her husband's commission; she was wrong about NAFTA when her husband supported it; she was wrong on Iraq; and she was wrong about how to manage her campaign.

Why OBAMA isn't making these points as clearly as I have over these past months is beyond me.

The choice for America is clear. We can run the same old campaign of Dems for Dems sake or getting someone in there who will make the CORRECT decisions on DAY ONE at 3 o'clock in the morning.

I wear a flag pin. And like most of them, if not all of them, IT"S MADE IN CHINA!!!

The real issue the obamaniacs had better start dealing with is:
Can Obama stand up to the media when he's running from it?
Hillary can do that--has done that.
Because Michelle began running as a black version of Phyllis Schafly--Hillary's had to be 'manly'--and say things like the Iran comment. Which might not be bad to scare that guy into behaving before the election so as not to give Shrub any excuses to act a fool.
THE REAL ANSWER TO THE QUESTION AND BOTH OF THEM MISSED IT (musta been all that aipac money they feared would be used against them--so calm down koolaid drinkers)---
"Israel was attacked in your hypothetical. The first thing to do is to decide what is in the best interest of AMERICA and the rest of the world."

Sorry Obama won't debate. A good question would have been how he plans to fix our "broken souls".
-------------------
Obama the Savior
Speaking in February of the man she knows better than anyone else does, Michelle Obama said that her husband, Illinois Senator and candidate for the Democratic Presidential nomination Barack Obama, is the only candidate for president who understands that before America can solve its problems, Americans have to fix their “broken souls.”

She also said that her husband’s unique understanding of the state of souls of the American people makes him uniquely qualified to be President. Obama can do what his opponent in the Democratic race Senator Hillary Clinton, and Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, cannot do. He can heal his countrymen’s broken souls. He will redeem them.

But then, saving souls is hard work, and Mrs. Obama won’t place the whole burden on her husband. He’ll make the Americans work for him. As she put it, “Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zone. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.”

It seems as though Obama wants to be Pastor-in-Chief, not Commander-in-Chief.

Are you for real? Do most Democrats in Indiana watch FOX NEWS?

My guess is that it is an insignificant sliver that is not likely to make one bit of difference.

Obama's real point was to appear heroic in taking on FOX News. But not of the questions asked were about questions that divide the Democrats and the Republicans.

Now, had they asked about taxes and abortion and gay rights. Now that would have been a real discussion.

Sounds, though, as if no sparks flew. Whoever saw the show likely isn't going to vote Democratic anyway.

First off Obama, let me correct you, you and Hillary have had 4 (four) debates with just the two of you. All the other debates included all the other candidates, which meant it really did not compare you and Hillary and where you stand. Second, we all know you can't beat her in a debate, you haven't so far. So, why don't you stop making excuses and admit you are afraid to debate her one on one. This should tell the people of Indiana and the entire US how weak you are in the issues that face this country. In case you didn't hear the crowd that was with Hillary when she made this challenge, it sounded to me that they are in favor of this one on one debate, so that makes you look really bad, Obama.

Tortian,
Watch the interview Wright gave with Moyers on Friday night before you pollute our public sphere with your ad hominem nonsense. It's this kind of tripe that embarasses me about this country.

chichi2,

Don't bother. He, like so many ignorant, media-fed Americans, wouldn't get it.

Even now, the media is ignoring what Rev. Wright said and, instead, offering a snippet to misrepresents what he said.

What a surprise. Fox wastes their time on lapel pins, former radicals, and snippets of sermons. I never watch Fox, but I knew I wouldn't be missing anything important. I don't know why Obama bothered with them.

Obama should debate Hillary and explain why a terrorist is on his website as a supporter and friend of Michelle Obama - as reported by FrontPage:
Terrorist Fundraisers for Obama
By Patrick Poole
FrontPageMagazine.com | Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Two years ago, Hatem El-Hady was the chairman of the Toledo, Ohio-based Islamic charity, Kindhearts, which was closed by the US government in February 2006 for terrorist fundraising and all its assets frozen. Today, El-Hady has redirected his fundraising efforts for his newest cause - Barack Obama for President.

El-Hady has his own dedicated page on Barack Obama's official website, chronicling his fundraising on behalf of the Democratic Party presidential candidate (his Obama profile established on February 19, 2008 - two years to the day after Kindhearts was raided by the feds). Not only that, but he has none other than Barack Obama's wife, Michelle Obama, listed as one of his friends (one of her 224 listed friends).

But his leadership of Kindhearts is not the only thing that has brought him scrutiny by federal law enforcement officials. Last summer, El-Hady was questioned by the FBI concerning his knowledge of possible conspirators in a UK-based terror plot.

Hatem El-Hady's interest in "change" is understandable. Following the closure of Kindhearts, he said in response to the government's closure of his organization:

"It's dirty politics," said Dr. Hatem Elhady, chairman of the board of KindHearts, which raised $5.1 million in 2004. "They do not like the way things are going in Palestine. They do not like the election results. But that is not our problem. Our problem is providing aid to people in desperate need of help."

The Department of Justice had a very different version of events. According to the DOJ, Kindhearts assumed the role of lead terrorist fundraising in the US after the government had closed other such Islamic "charities":

"KindHearts is the progeny of Holy Land Foundation and Global Relief Foundation, which attempted to mask their support for terrorism behind the façade of charitable giving," said Stuart Levey, Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.

I realize that some people would rather pay outlandish amounts for gas, taxes, public transportation, etc. and watch their young relatives and friends die in an unnecessary war than vote for a man who really cares about all the people in this country. These type of people would rather wallow in despair than be saved by a nonwhite. Why?

It amazes me that some Americans cannot grasp the fact that Obama is just as much white as he is black. It is from some white people's perspective that Obama only sees the black blood in himself. Could any of you doubters hate your mom and renounce her blood in you? Well, neither can Obama. I know many people who are proudly half Irish and half Italian, half Swedish and half German, etc. So, why do some people think Obama rejects the other half of himself? He has the right to be proud of his entire heritage just like everybody else.

People who need justification for disliking Obama because he is nonwhite should stop trying to put an unjust label on him by inferring that he is some sort of black radical. If a person doesn't like Obama's politics, that's fine. It's the person who hates the thought of Obama for president only because of his color that is outrageous. It is these people who try to smear Obama to make themselves seem righteous. Also, it is these type of people who are bad for this country, not Obama.

How about a debate question for Obama that Chicagoans can connect with: Why is your campaign leader, David Axelrod, also working behind the scens on forcing Chicagoans to accept Chicago Children's Musuem in Grant Park? Does this mean Obama is for the Chicago Children's Museum in Grant Park?

The essentially broke Clinton campaign is looking for some cheap publicity. If the last debate is any indication, the format doesn't do much to enlighten voters, but instead rehashes manufactured controversy. Clinton has figured out that while she cannot advance her brand on its own merits, she CAN diminish her opponent's by reinforcing doubts on non-essential issues (flag pins and pastors). Obama is better off forcing Clinton to heckle from the sidelines and instead focus on finding better ways to speak directly to voters and avoid situations that could cause a "meltdown" of his candidacy before June. It's his to lose and Clinton knows this; it's why she wants to draw him out. She's fighting as if they were not members of the same party, which is awful and explains why she has lost so much support. Her approach belongs in the past.

Sam, the only voters who have not had a chance to see Hillary and Barrack debate one on one are those who have not yet mastered their remote controls. There is no reason at this point to allow Hillary and Wolfson to divert Obama from his schedule in both of the upcoming states. He should go talk to the people directly and let Billary decide whether she would be Abe or Douglas in the school play.

what do you mean the people if indiana have not had a chace to hear them debate they have t v ,s why should obama give that old lying haf a chance at free prime time let her pay for if she can

Hey EyesondaPrize,
I do "Remember what he [Obama] did to Alice Palmer," do you? He challenged her fraudulent petitions. Others evaluated them and disqualified her.
Shame.

Grow up.

Is Mr. Obama saying a relationship with the Republicans and religious right should be more troubling than a relationship with a terrorist? I guess because people of faith are clinging to guns. Oh, wait a minute. A terrorist is probably clinging to violent objects, too.

How true. Good one, I love it! LOL!!

"I wouldn't want to debate Senator Tonya Harding either! The Clinton's have been knee-capping Obama for months now, why give her free publicity when she is clearly out of funds?"

Whaaatttt!!???

Then what the heck were they doing and who was being compared?

Of course people were comparing Obama and Hillary during those debates. And they were comparing all of the other participants as well.

What do you want, 21 debates between the two of them only so that we can really compare who wears their flag pins the most?

Look, be honest. If Hillary were ahead, she wouldn't want to debate - just as she did not during her senatorial races.

The problem for Hillary is that she thought she'd have this wrapped up by Feb. 4th. Unfortunately, that's when she fell behind and she hasn't been able to catch up since.

I can see it now. Hillary's going to want the nomination process to go on and on and on beyond the convention until she gets the nod.

Well, it ain't gonna happen, sweetie.

Another cheap Clinton stunt. I am so disappointed with this out of control freak show of a candidate. I hope she has a therapist. She sure does need one. I am not kidding either.

Here's why da messiah will be in JAIL and not in da white house:

HIllary is NOT the enemy,
She's the solution.
She'll be better than Bill--who almost single handedly fought back a repeal of the FDR bennies you and I like so much. She'll get to put his domestic agenda into effect. And, while it won't be a 'felling of the system' that the weather underground idiots like Ayers and Dohrn and their supporter Mike Moore, it will be great.
Get on board. Bathe first, please Roger.

Logic Prisoner--maybe your therapist is free. But I think she's pretty together.
Know what's 'crazy'? Obama thinking he'd never get caught!

Obama lost every single debate he's add with HIllary so I am not surprised he won't debate her one more time without moderators. The last debate surely pictured him as a nincompoop. He's just a plain coward and we don't need a coward for a president.

Nice propaganda. Sorry it's all in vain. Your hero Hillary is a whack job. But she was smart enough to get $2,000 out of me a couple of years back. Then this decent honest guy named Barack Obama entered the race. I still kept an open mind and was impressed with Hillary's performance in the first couple of debates. What I saw in the following months however was a slow decent into what can only be called a meltdown. A decent into a campaign of lies and negative adds. In short a complete disappointment. Vote for her if you want. I'm voting for the guy who took the high road. Obama 2008.

It is very interesting how many people have taken what Jeremiah Wright has said and directly applied it to Barack. I have never seen Wright himself say anything anti-semetic or anti-white. Often it seems, those who have taken the most offense equate the use of 'America' when describing people simply as 'white people.'

You are naiive to think that America has no wrongs and saying that someone is 'unAmerican' for pointing that out. Your kids have faults and you point them out, doesn't mean you love them any less... does it? America isn't the living model of perfection but you can still love it and be critical.

Obama wasn't even at the sermon that they run on tv constantly yet this has become a more central factor than his plan for health care, foriegn policy, and trying to boost our struggling econonmy, that's just crazy.

What is Obama afraid of???

The fact is Obama's numbers are sliding in Indiana. The undecided vote will swing to Hillary just as it did in PA. If he doesn't debate her, all that does is strengthen the undecided voters with Hillary. At least if he goes head to head with her he has a chance.

Funny how the Dems love Bill and Hillary 8 Years ago. I hear Dems talking about the Clinton Presidency being one of the best ever. Now the Clintons are evil. Funny how a black slick talker who is supported by a black racist pastor is now better than the Clintons. Obama is a do nothing Senator. He does not have what it takes to lead this Great Country. He should not only drop from the Race, but he should resign from the Senate.

He spent most of his career in the Senate overseas. He skipped most of the votes he was elected to do. He now wants America to allow him to run this Country.

I hope people wake up and see just how bad he will be.

His ideas to raise taxes on the working class will kill the working class. His tax raises will kill small businesses.

Lets get real. Being black is not a qualification for President. How about some Experience.

Rev Jeremiah Wright gave a usual black church rant and rave which is not going to help B Hussein Obama.
He tried to say that blacks are irht headed instead of left headed he used music to defend rap and hip hop so anything goes.
He again made blacks victims and blamed education for all their faults.
This is not a platform B Hussein Obama can benefit from its 76 trombones all over again without justification.
Blacks he said are defiscent they are right headed and not left headed.
Obama needs resuscitation to stay alive this is more Chataucqua but not an answer
to Obamas campaign.
Rev Jeremiah Wright is a gift that keeps on giving and Obama never gained 1 point against Hillary with this rant from Wright.
Obama has wedded himself to a loser who is going to bring his whole campaign down--Remember Wright is an anti-white rascist--the Catholic vote isn't coming home anytime soon. They are too smart for this oompappa routine from the University of Michigan Band. Obama is done and Wright who says he wants change only wants to save his sorry rear end not Obamas.

Roger this: If I were Obama I wouldn't want to debate her either, SHE ALWAYS WINS while he stutters and stammers and looks positively flustered. However, as a Hillary supporter since the beginning I would love to see this one on one debate, I really need a good laugh. I find his attempt at trying to even come close to her knowledge amusing.

While the question of can American move past race was answered by Obama to a certain degree with an affirmative, the comments here clearly demonstrate that the answer to can America move past the issue of gender is no. :(

Too bad about the debate - I'd love to see more of Hillary. After all, she was raised in (your state) as a poor, gun-toting daughter of a (blue collar job) worker, instilled with your values.

Such an ingenuous woman - does Obama beats his kids? As far as I know he doesn't.

Obama is not afraid of anything

I am afraid of the poison, lies and disingenuous postings here and where other Hillary trolls roam

Look at the issues
Vote for who you want
but demonzing Barack Obama thorugh associations both real and fake will not lower gas prices, will not end the war and will not make you a more decent human being

If you don't see it - the venom posted here is the reason why this country must elect Sen Obama in November

A return to civilized behavior in this country is long overdue

and it is so much easier to give in to the politics of hate and fear than try and elevate the discourse

Choose hope

Not a geat interview either way. No news, no new nuances.

Obama made a arithmatic error by jokingly saying 2008 being a leap year (which is true) means the number of days since his last Fox interview was 1 day less than Fox's counter.....it would actually mean 1 day more.

Hillary in Obama OUT:

I hope you are enjoying Hillary's current run and will be willing to support Barack when she drops out. She has been out organized, out maneuvered, out voted, out fund-raised, and she was the "inevitable" candidate. What happened? Why couldn't she close the deal? Is it because we have found out who she REALLY is rather than who she says she is?

If Obama wants us to vote for him for President of the United States, he should not hide. He should stand up and say why he is best qualified. If he doesn't, I have no choice but to assume he is a coward!

Thank you Obama. I think I'd commit hari kari if there was another debate and we had to listen to more Hillary lies.

Obama is being smart by not allowing Hilary to get any more media attention in order to stunt any momentum she gained with her win in PA. She hadn't been in the news for soooo long before her win there. Go Barack!

thank you christie. I, also took note and how it has not been brought up in the media

"Obama may have been annoyed to be asked all the hot-button questions, but he was surely expecting them. "
-----------
Obama was not annoyed and yes, he was clearly expecting the questions, which he handled with great aplomb. I suspect that this author would like those who did not see the interview themselves to think that Obama was annoyed. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is clearly slanted journalism.

"I'm not ducking," Obama said of the debate question. "We've had 21."

Man up OBAMA...the count between you and Clinton is a big 4...WE can count!

Are you afraid of Catholic voters, rural and blue collar workers of Indiana or what?

If you can't stand up to a public debate, you are having delusions of grandeur on standing up for America!!!.

Hatem El-Hady? Is this a real story or was it from the Onion?

I mean, come on, that sounds like a made up name. Almost like somehting Stanley Kubrick could have come up with, such as, "Gen. Jack T Ripper".
