The Swamp

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) urged Sen. Hillary Clinton to end her Democratic presidential campaign Friday, while U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said he'd "counsel" Clinton to do the same.

"There really are no options left, so now the decision is really the exit plan," said Schakowsky before a fundraiser for her re-election that featured speeches by Michelle Obama and outed CIA agent Valerie Plame. Schakowsky and Durbin have backed Obama throughout his presidential run.

By exiting sooner rather than later, Clinton could claim the role of unifier amid intense party in-fighting and shift the focus to the November general election, Durbin said.

"This is a great moment for her to seize, where she can bring the party together, rally her supporters for the good of the cause..." said Durbin, a longtime Obama backer who has mentored him in the Senate.

Here's Durbin's full quote:

"Only Hillary can make this decision, no one can make it for her. Those who think that they can push or pull, it's not going to work. She has to make this decision. If I were to counsel her, and she's not asking me, [but] if I were, I would tell her this is a great moment for her to seize, where she can bring the party together, rally her supporters for the good of the cause and maybe in the process sit down with Barack and take care of two unfinished pieces of business: Michigan and Florida. If the two of them can work it out, then I think it would be a great close to what has been a terrific campaign that she's waged."

What do Dubya and Hillbillary have in common?

Answer: Neither is capable of developing and implementing an exit strategy.

Everybody but Hilary Soprano hears the "SONG" of the FAT LADY. She is singing and Hillary Soprano is not hearing. But thats OK with me. The more she "WILLS" herself to victory, the more it helps McCain. Her "WILL" will no except the fact that "BILL" is number "ONE" and she is "NOT". He ran for president and "WON" she ran for the nomination and "LOST"

The point is to make sure every Democrat that voted in all 50 states for Clinton are counted not 48 states. Obama will not win the white middle class no matter what Hillary says or does!! I will campaign along with many others for John McCain. You will see how foolish the democratic party has thrown away the Whithouse for a man with questionable ties which you living in Chicago are aware of. Maybe you both play the way Chicago plays by gangster corruption politics. I hear that is the only way to get into office in illinois

IF NOT HILLARY CLINTON THAN VOTE FOR JOHN MCCAIN-.

How wrong-headed! Who knows what revelations may come in the months between now and convention time. We know so little about Obama, especially his middle years. We know so little about his siblings. We know nothing about what he has contributed to his country...maybe because he has made no such contributions. We know so little about his wife's true feelings about America or anything else. The Democrats do not need a July surprise.

Yet, we all know she is too stubborn to do so.

What garbage. Of course what can you expect from Bamaland?? And Durbin is "counseling" her?? Heh. He needs some counseling himself. All this from folks who don't want all the voters counted. Is it that long since the Bush ballot fiasco?

Of course they want Hillary to drop out, they're going to need Obama to pardon all of themselves and all of their friends....Oh, and let's not forget he'll have to fire Patrick Fitzgerald.

Those two idiots Shakowsky and Durbin should resign from office because of the horrible job they have been doing. That Shakowsky with her CONVICTED FELON HUSBAND should hang her head in shame.

I wish that Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) would stay out of the business of the voters...

It is bad enough us transplants to Florida and Michigan got screwed by Democrat rules... It was a Republican in Florida that decided an early vote and they won't even consider my right as a citizen has been destroyed...

Jan, Why don't you look into that instead trying to persuade Hillary, my vote, to concede...

You are doing the public a disservice. If you can't persuade the Democrat rule change WHY DON"T YOU QUIT.

I'm happy to see all the racists. xenophobes and other assorted bigots fleeing the democratic party in fear of Obama. Good Riddance. We don't need you, or want you. If you can't handel a multiracial man from a multicultural background you'll be much better off as a Republican.

This is the future of America. If you can't deal with it, tough.

The democratic party would like to see Clinton quit, but she is not a quitter. They think that she is hurting Obama's chances to win against McCain. If Obama is getting hurt by Clinton, just think what McCain will do to him in the general election. Obama is weak, just because he does not have the experience to do the job, his one year's experience in the senate just does not pass muster when stacked up to Hillary or John's experience. Obama is a disaster in the making for the democratic party.

HIllary people, be sure to vote in the next elections! We need every vote, to add to her national popular vote total.

Obama's people are trying to bluff her out or make us stay home; they concede she will win by landslides in WV and KY, so they are pretending the states we are going to win big don't matter.

Hillary WON Indiana. Obama had strong GOTV in both states -- so will McCain. Extra percents of AA's in NC and other red states means nothing for November.

Indiana was called a 'tie-breaker' -- tilll Hillary won it.

They’ve knocked her down. She gets back up. Time and again, Senator Hillary Clinton has been counted out but she is still standing strong. She has won the hearts and minds of over 16 million voters nationwide. What is it they see in this tremendously strong and intellectual woman?

For me, at least, I can tell you that having watched Hillary reach out to all of us on the campaign trail over the past 16 months, and speak to all of us in great detail about what she would like to accomplish for all of us, particularly in the debates, I know without a doubt she should be our president. She is concerned about all the right things - how we're going to set our economy right, how we're going to have health insurance that covers everyone, how we're going to guarantee every child a good education, how we're going to restore our country's reputation abroad - and has thoughtful, innovative plans to address all of these very real issues for all Americans.

Senator Clinton believes very strongly in what the Democratic Party's principles are and she believes in our commitment to ensuring that we have the strongest possible nominee to lead the Democratic ticket against John McCain and the Republicans in November. Hillary has won tremendous victories in bellwether states like Ohio, Pennsylvania and now Indiana that are absolutely vital to winning the White House and maintaining the Democratic Congressional majority in the fall. Senator Clinton has won the big battleground states by connecting with voters whose support the Democrats must have to win the general election. Her victories in Pennsylvania and Indiana were all the more impressive after being outspent by as much as two or three to one.

That’s why she continues to fight for this election and continues to fight for all of us.

Please support Hillary Clinton for President. Senator Clinton is a smart vote for America. Senator Clinton is the right vote for America.

There is still no clear winner, no matter what the pundits and national Democrats say. I fear that Obama is not electable in November, and there is really not a good way to say it. The reasons include racism, but they also include the mysterious and troubling blank spots in Obama's resume. Hillary's campaign has proven that she is electable. With half the money and half the media support, she is really close, and should the Dems decide to count all the votes, she will be even closer. Maybe the two potential nominees should meet and Obama should withdraw in favor of Clinton, who is clearly the most electable candidate.

Why is it okay for Obama to call blacks his "base" and not for Clinton to point out that Obamba has lost the majority support of rural white folks by making all of his stupid comments.

There is nothing wrong with reminding people where your base is or where your political strength lies when you are trying to woo super delegates to choose the BEST Qualified candidate to win in November.

This is a still a close race and Clinton has at least half the Democratic votes. Why should she quit? The media, pundits, and DNC are alienating half of the Democratic party by trying to shove Clinton out of the race. This is unprecedented and disgusting.

Durbin is a joke !! His man can't close the deal because he isn't trusted by us blue collar workers- no matter what color he is he isn't trustworthy YET!!! and until we know him better we'll take McBush

If it weren't for the supporters of Obama, I might be able to see Obama to evaluate him; but when I listen to him, I hear only words. Words, as if I am supposed to understand what he would do for this country from his rhetoric; I look at his actions/inactions and it doesn't match up. Flag pins, disrespect for our country.
Where is unity?
I just see hatred for women, disdain for others who do not 'believe' in the cult of personality that is Obama.

Clinton has the guts, the gravitas, and the goods - but it seems our party is blinded and being torn up by its' own Byzantine rules and practices that have left it with too many camps to count to begin with. It would be hard to find unity in such a system - so we have a party that will be at war with itself for a long time to come.

I'm ready for a third party candidate this season, because I can't vote for Barry or John.

Is anyone else as tired as I am of the Obamabots calling anyone who refuses to support Obama a racist? This kind of overbearing and exaggerated self pride...hubris...will ultimately result in a most fatal retribution come November. This kind of uninformed and misguided logic will not only permanently divide the democratic party, but will ultimately assure McCain the presidency.

My advice to Hillary,
(FORGET the Demomcratic
Party). They & the media have
disrespected her because she
is a woman and because she
is married to Bill Clinton.
Hillary I say get on the Independent Ticket and beat them both Obama & McCain

It astonishes me that so many articles are now quoting Obama supporters as urging Clinton to get out of the race. Of course! That is the only way their candidate can win the nomination before August--if she quits. Even if she "suspends" her campaign, the nomination won't be official until the vote in August. Don't you realize that?

Journalists writing one-sided pieces urging a candidate to exit. This is unprecedented in the entire history of US politics, and there have races as close before. Even so NEVER has a candidate been urged to exit. Why now? Why with 3 weeks left and millions of people who haven't voted yet?

Is Obama so fragile that you fear an angry mama will injure her sensitive little boy? This is a diminshing view of both candidates. If Obama is so weak a candidate he needs to be treated with kid gloves, he's going to fail in the fall.

"Clinton is being held to a different standard than virtually any other candidate in history. When Clinton is simply doing what everyone else has always done, she's constantly attacked as an obsessed and crazed egomaniac, bent on self-aggrandizement at the expense of her party."-Steven Stark, Boston Phoenix

Posted by one of 16 million voters who've voted for Clinton so far. We exist and we matter. She is our representative in this race!

Early in the campaign these accusations of 'racism' were effective. But at this point, after all the other unfair and nasty tactics of Obama and his supporters -- well, legitimate race concerns may get thrown out with the bathwater.

Too much "Blacks will defect" is beginning to cause us to examine just what would happen in November in HIllary vs McCain if the Blacks DID defect, or stay home. They seem able to deliver delegate votes (per Brazile's manipulation of the allotments and the calendar) but not electoral votes, as in Nov their states always go red and there aren't even Blacks elected to statewide positions.

If Obama somehow got nominated, he would be McGovern all over again -- lost all but two states, elected Nixon. Better not tie Obama's defeat to his Blackness, or Dems who want to win in future will avoid letting any Black near the nomination.

Geeeee----The Illinois Combine SPEAKS AS ONE!
Get Off it already.
This is just NUTS.
His wins are FAKE--he's not going to get those votes in the Fall.
Accusing Hillary of being racist falls flat with the vast majority of the electorate.
It is OBAMA who maybe oughta drop out.
Hillary at least should stay in play until the convention.
We now know that there may be a plea bargain in the Rezko case---who else in Illinois is going down the tubes?
Remember the northern part of the state was stolen for Kennedy (kinda like the delay with Gary Indiana) and the southern part of the state was stolen for the Republicans--that's why Nixon backed down.
We DON"T KNOW if the Obamas' rise to the American oligarchy will survive the national vetting the Clintons already endured and WON---higher in the opinion polls when THEIR feet are to the fire.
So far--that hasn't been the case when the media has parried with him and his wife EVEN THE SLIGHTEST.
Don't expect the media to back off him in the Fall.
Don't we WANT to win back the white house and congress from the repugs?

ince Hillary will own the rest of the primaries, this crazy push is Obama's last gasp. Behind most of the race, he's counting on his republicans in Alaska, Whyoming, Utah, and Idaho counting more than registered Democrats in New York, California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida, Texas, Ohio, Michigan -- all the big reliable Democratic winner states. It's just crazy, and no matter how much the 'bought and paid for' press wants her to be cowed and intimidated, she just won't be. And she will win the victory. Thanks to God Almighty, she will persevere and win our country's inevitable triumph.

Obama played by the rules and won. How can we even consider reinstating Florida and Michigan? Only solution I see not to disenfranchise those states is to give them token representation at the convention after Hillary has conceded to Senator Obama. Unfortunately I don't see Hilary putting her own ambitions behind the party's, those states' or the country. Do you?

Superdelegates shouldn't be too concerned about the "it's Hillary or I'm voting McCain" voices. They were mostly McCain folk from the get go and thus irrelevant.

Of course Schakowsky and Durbin want Hillary to quit, she's the one who can beat McCain, has more electoral votes, 8 out of the 10 largest states, and a real connection to actual voters. Let All states vote and count all votes! Thank you, Kathryn Ellis

But, what is the will of the people?

About the pundits declaring the race is over, we think they are ignoring the fatal flaw in the Democratic nominating process. We have not read one article or heard one pundit talk about why caucuses do not reflect the will of the people. Obama owes his lead in pledged delegates to the twelve caucuses. So, what is the problem?

Caucuses disenfranchise Hillary's main voter base: older voters, working people who cannot afford baby sitters or take time off to participate in the lengthy caucus process, and the many women who are intimidated or feel pressured by the public aspect of caucuses. Many of these voters use absentee ballots in primary states. To prove to yourself that the caucus results do not represent the voting population of a state, compare the results of caucuses to the results of primaries (see Map Room on website election.msn.com, for example, Washington and Texas).

We call on the superdelegates to study the caucus issue and what it means in this election before the media makes the decision for them. Hillary Rodham Clinton has shown that she is the most electable Democrat based on the results in primary states.

Hillary is all wind, her words are meaningless.

Her accomplihments are legendary, in that they are vaporware, the conceptions are still in formation.

Her trouble-shooting trips to foreign lands are just fabled for the dangers she has to negotiate.

Her health care proposal, you know, the one that would penalize someone for not participating, smacks more than a little bit dictatorial, and has no chance of being implemented. Just like the prior attempt, this one is a non-starter.

She has a well rehearsed act to deal with all eventuality, yet she muffed the nomination campaign. She should be nominated for an oscar.

She's now looking for contributions from the exploited rubes to bail her muti-millionaire derrier out of a bind. She is asking her supporters to make her whole by topping up the millions she had "borrowed" from her vast elitist reserves form their pittance.

What a campaign? And what an eye-opener on who these Clintons are?

What is that popular definition of insanity?

Someone who repeatedly do the same thing and expect the outcome to be different. Reminds me of the Clinton campaign and their self-absorbed reluctance to read the writing on the wall.

Charlatans, get over it, America has been out on a date with you but didn't enjoy the experience.

Should Clinton quit? Absolutely not! Although much of the media seems to believe that it, not the voters, should decide which candidate should be elected, and when, regardless of qualifications, and has strenuously tried to force Clinton from the race, she'll win. She's smart, tough, experienced, & far better prepared for the job and responsibilities of the oval office. We know she'll steer us back to a sound economy without wars, with good employment, the same health care plan that Congress members enjoy, gas & electricity we can afford, increased employment, no more out-sourcing, & an income tax that's fair to us instead of favoring the wealthy.

Based on Obama’s accomplishments and experience to date, we have no reason to believe that he could or would do the same; and his history, basic philosophy per his autobiography, his "selective" memory, and close ties to people like William Ayers, Louis Faraquan, el-slsl, Jeremiah Wright, and Tony Rezko cause deep concern about his qualifications, who he would choose as his advisers, cabinet, and chiefs of staff, and where he would lead us. He promises change but so did George Bush. Hillary promises change, and we know we can trust that her changes will be for the better.

As the campaigns progress and more of Obama's true character and morals, history, etc., emerges, many voters have already had second thoughts about his self- proclaimed honesty, transparency & accountability (and also about his scarcity of qualifications) and decided that Clinton is the better candidate, and many more voters will have second, & third, thoughts as they learn more about Obama. This is verified by the exit polls. As us non-elitists say, Obama ain't all that he'd like us to think he is, and the voters are learning--notwithstanding the opinions of Jan Schakowsky, Dick Durbin (both from Obama’s home state) or one Monique Garcia (who's she?).

Hillary is going to win this you wait and see. Then I hope tell the media to go to where the sun dose not shine. You the media have done nothing but try run her down from the start.Obama will do nothing for this country but bring it down.We need Hillary to lead us out of this mess we are in.So you better pray wins this for all fo us.

I believe that Hillary will win the popular vote by the end of these primaries. That's the only way she has a point to make. However, if Hillary were ahead in the delegate count and a MAN was barely behind her, I know by watching the cable news shows for months, that they would be behind the MAN, black or otherwise, to stay in the race. It was not so long ago, that police called in for domestic abuse, would tell women "the man is sorry, don't press charges", "there's nothing we can do, it's a civil matter." Hillary is running and staying in for every woman who has been told "don't even try". Thousands of women suffer rape, domestic abuse, battering, sexual harrassment in the work place in America, and little girls are more likely than boys to be sexually molested. In foreign countries, baby girls are drowned (india), aborted (china), bound and genitals cut (cultural).

Yet I see what I've seen all of my life, only exemplified in one woman, Hillary. She is being told to shut up, be quiet, maligned, booed, and generally shit on by whom? MOSTLY MEN. My husband happens to be the exception to this rule and he is an amazing person. After what I've seen of how I've been treated and other women have been treated by men, it's a wonder that there are any relationships. I don't get cussed out, or abused, or spoken down to by my husband. We've been together 17 years I am a grateful to have this person in my life. But too many years I've suffered at the hands of men, as I see women every day put up with unacceptable behavior just as we 're seeing in print and on cable news. They only way for many women to go on is to just deny that this kind of behavior is happeining. Well, I have no reason not to see it. I have a great man. I am in a unique position. I can say anything I like - even discuss my dislike and sometimes hatred for what men put women through and my husband can see it right along with me. He also believes that what we're seeing in print and cable news is gender bashing. Men are afraid that women will begin to have a voice and object to the treatment they've endured for years. I give you rap music that calls women bitches and hos and puts women down in horrible ways. Why didn't the country stop that? Because men want women to feel as if they have no power because they are then easily manipulated out of fear or lack of self-esteem. It's a strategy that men have employed for years. But they don't do this in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Holland and other obviously more civilized countries than our own. This kind of behavior is not acceptable for some countries-yet we accept it here. And I mean WOMEN accept it. That's why see Hillary beaten down doesn't bother them.

I see the media is ripping Hillary apart for no reason other than she's a woman. Look at Huckabee, he obviously didn't have a chance and yet the media didn't rip him. They treated him like a newborn baby compared to what Hillary is going through and she is a viable candidate. This is what is going to tear apart the Democratic party in the long run. The way they've treated Hillary and, by assocation, women. I, for one, will never vote for another Democrat, because I see what loyalty to the Democratic party has gotten me. Another man in office.

Don't you think something must change? How does putting another man in office change anything? As far as I'm concerned it's the same old, same old. As for Obama winning? It ain't gonna happen. THe simple fact is he can't win over blue collar white voters and he never will-not because he's black, but because he is seen as an intellectual, elitist, just as Kerry, Dukakis, McGovern, and the rest. Why didn't they win? The message from America is clear, the Democrats are just not listening. They want a middle of the road candidate who will be tough on national security, create a better economic situation, get us out of Iraq (not so important to many) and improve our quality of life and economic growth. It takes over 55,000,000 votes to win-not 16,700,00 votes. Obama or Clinton are a long way from winning. But if the Democrats want to even compete they're going to have to choose the candidate that has a chance, and I know that candidate is Hillary based on my experience of seeing election after election after election. I would hope that those in Washington, who should know better than me since they live it day after day, would also know that.

Obama has not reached 2025 electoral votes. He is not the Presidential nominee. It's now up to the superdelegates. If Hillary gets the popular vote and he gets the most delegates, ala Bush vs. Gore, ethically and morally, it should go to Hillary. Just as the Presidency should have gone to Gore in 2000. I think most people would agree with that. People felt cheated and defrauded in that election because Gore won the popular vote. Now the Democrats are going to turn around and behave in the same manner? Doesn't sound like a recipe for winning in November. You can certainly count out Florida, and Ohio.

I hope you can understand my point of view.

Linda Lyons

We're choosing a candidate who can win in November. It doesn't matter how some caucus in February in some little red state voted then. The real vote happens in August, for good reason: the delegates can look back on the whole campaign and all that's been revealed, and choose the most electable candidate.

We've seen that Hillary is the one who can win the 'Reagan Democrats' -- a very large group. She is the one who wins swing states. She polls ahead of McCain.

Obama has got some good on-paper numbers because he has been gaming the system and preventing voting or votes being counted. You can't win the GE that way.

Honestly I do believe Democrats have thrown away their golden chance by supporting Obama this early in his career. First, count those votes in FL and Mich, cuz those voters are going to be ticked off come Nov. Also, it would be wise for Obama supporters to realize that all of your nastiness about Senator Clinton (right in these comments) serves to alienate the millions of Senator Clinton supporters, without whom Obama stands no chance against McCain.

Valerie Plame was at the event speaking for Hillary. One strong, brave woman speaking up for another. The Democrats "wuss factor" is showing. We have Durbin, Leahy, Kerry, Dodd, Kennedy and Jan Schakowsky all afraid of the Democratic process. No wonder they haven't stood up for us against Bush. The get their buts whooped every time. Now we find out they are afraid of democracy and having the people vote. Funny how last week the MSM was talking about how tired and beaten down Obama was looking and that Hillary was the one that showed grit and stamina. Can you imagine what is going to happen when the Republicans get a hold of him. She is staying in for us, her faithful supporters who have chosen her policies over his, plain and simple. If she doesn't win the nomination she should replace Harry Reid because we need someone with resolve and backbone leading those wusses in the Senate.

The press has been drubbing Hillary to quit for months. Why not just watch what happens. Obama has not won it yet, and she has the right to stay in until he does. That will be the moment for the gracious concession, the unifying, and so forth.
