Finally a bit of good news for a beleaguered Bush Administration beset by an unpopular war, record gas prices and a sputtering economy. Violent crime is down.
We don't even have to crack the file on the FBI's preliminary annual report on the subject.
The Justice Department was quick to issue a comment this morning pointing out the drop before the Swamp could click through the G-men's report. Give DOJ credit, though, they weren't chasing the spotlight, just making an even-handed observation and acknowledging that the drop is not evenly spread:
"The latest numbers from the FBI are very encouraging, though still preliminary and could change when the final numbers are released later this year," said spokesman Peter Carr.
"The report suggests that violent crime is decreasing and remains near historic low levels, which is a credit to increased cooperation among federal, state and local law enforcement. Some communities, however, continue to face localized violent crime challenges. While these challenges may be unique to each community, the Department is committed to providing targeted assistance wherever needed."
Here's AP's early take on the report.

You forgot to include into those statistics the violence and mayhem the Bush Administration has visited on the Iraqi nation, men, women and children !! That is violence America is committing under the orders of our Commander-in-Chief, in Iraq and it is immoral and illegal !! It should be included in our national statistics, but , no, like the our squandering of our Treasure, in Iraq, that is not on the books, either !! Accountability and transparency, thy name is not the Bush Administrations!!!

Joe,
What planet do you live on? What part of the opening paragraph isn't accurate? If you want Bush fawning turn on Faux News.

Hey Doug!....I'm watching the "fair and balanced" news station right now! They are actually mentioning that your hero, Barack Obama is not a very good speaker when he steps away from the teleprompter! Do you think MSNBC would ever report such a staggering revelation? Maybe this guy is not quite what you think he is? Come on Doug...you lib's are terrified that you have been fooled into support this light weight!!!

Joe,
This lib isn't terrified of anything. Get out your swiftboat, give it a tuneup and a wash...
... you're going to need it!

Hey, " Doug Zook ", it's too bad they will not be able to use their swift-boats this season, thanks to their commander-in-chief, they can't afford the gas !! I'm sure they will find a way to get their fear/smear campaign going. Maybe they will finally agree to solar energy, or wind energy. to power their slanderous water-sled!!! In any case, it will not work, America, after Bush, will not be fooled, so easily, I hope !!

Hey, Don Fitzgerald Bring Our Troops Home. I've been reading your various comments all over the blogs the past several months. Man, you're costing Obama votes with your condescending comments. The masterminds behind the manchurian candidate have it all under control if only people like you would shut up and get out of the way.

I'm glad you are appreciating my comments. I try not to offend anybody, personally. I just want to remind all of us, what a mistake we can make if we do not know all of the facts, about any given candidate. George Bush is the classic model, today !! I know you, " Maeve O'Malley ", wish nothing but the best for our great country, as I do. I happen to think Senator Obama will make a better President than Senator " Questionable Conduct " McCain, of the " Keating Five ". Check it out, you may want to move to Manchuria !! You aren't related to Queen Maeve of Roscommon, are you?!! What a McCool name !!

Don't forget, this is the Bush Administration Justice Department. They may have decided to change their statistics by classifying some shootings or assaults as "non-violent". If the Bushies report the sky is blue today in Chicago, it's always best to double check with a more trusted source.
